The Project 2049 Institute’s New Senior Director: Jennifer K. Hong

For Immediate Public Release:

The Project 2049 Institute is delighted to welcome Ms. Jennifer Hong as a new member of our team.

Ms. Hong joins us after over 10 years of federal government experience, working on human rights and anti-trafficking issues across Asia and the Pacific Islands and leading strategic communications in the fields of foreign policy, law enforcement, and science and engineering. During her time at the U.S. Department of State, she worked with foreign governments and non-government partners to combat labor and sex trafficking in their countries — prosecuting traffickers, protecting victims, and preventing crimes of trafficking through training and partnerships across key stakeholders. She also led communication efforts for the Department in various capacities, including establishing a foreign language translation hub for key Department communiques and overseeing internal and external communications for the law enforcement arm of the Department. At the National Science Foundation, she led the agency’s public affairs team, communicating sciences and reaching key audiences through traditional and new age platforms.

With Ms. Hong on the team, Project 2049 is excited to continue expanding our work in promoting international security, individual freedom, and democratic institutions in the Indo-Pacific region. As Project 2049 continues to understand and analyze the security developments in U.S. partner countries in Asia that are playing critical roles in determining the future stability of the region, Ms. Hong’s understanding of—and experience in—the Indo-Pacific region, and her interest and passion in promoting human rights will play a crucial role in supporting the work and mission of Project 2049.

According to Project 2049 Institute President John Gastright, “We are so fortunate to have Jennifer on our team. Her more than a decade of government experience working on important issues across the Indo-Pacific as well as her expertise in human rights and science and engineering enhance key and long-standing focus areas at Project 2049.”

Project 2049 Executive Director Mark Stokes noted, “Jennifer has long been part of our extended Project 2049 family. Her attention to detail, knowledge, team spirit, and cheerful personality will make her a great addition to the core team.”

Ms. Hong has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley and Master in Public Policy from the University of Michigan, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. She was a Presidential Management Fellow and is fluent in Korean. She currently lives in Alexandria, VA with her husband and four children.

Sincerely,
The Project 2049 Institute Staff
