CESI Commissioner Matt Pottinger Testifies at the China Select Committee

Source: NBC News

On February 28th, Matt Pottinger, CESI Commissioner and China Program Chairman at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, testified alongside an expert panel before the new House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for its first hearing on the “The Chinese Communist Party’s Threat to America.”

The hearing was a no holds barred conversation where the bipartisan Committee and expert panel exposed the ideological, diplomatic, economic, and military threat the CCP poses to the United States. Mr. Pottinger aptly called out the CCP for being what they truly are, “masters at disguising their true intentions….presenting an illusory image to the outside world while speaking, planning, and acting in very different ways behind closed doors” – clear evidence of this seen in the video below that was submitted for the record by Mr. Pottinger.

Economic competition was front and center at the hearing, with resounding support for the United States to stop funding China’s rise, decouple in sectors that are vital to U.S. national security, and implement the authorities needed to defend the American way of life. It also reinforced that much work needs to be done to develop a comprehensive strategy to compete against China – a mission CESI is actively supporting.

Listen to Mr. Pottinger’s video testimony below and the full hearing on C-SPAN.
